Dr. Madhusudan Atre

Dr. Madhusudan Atre brings over 24 years of experience in the semiconductor and computer industries. As the senior executive and Country Head of MNCs in India, he has been responsible for strategy and operations, coordination and execution of all product development, business, and operational activities. He has represented the companies to the customers, business partners, universities, and local and central government officials. He has also provided executive leadership at all of the India-based sites.

Till recently, he was the President & MD of Applied Materials India. Prior to his role at Applied Materials India, Dr. Atre donned several technical, management and leadership roles: as the Vice President and Managing Director of LSI India, founding Managing Director and Vice President of Agere Systems India, founding director of Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Division, as well as several management positions at Texas Instruments India and India’s Defence R&D Organization.

Highlights of Dr. Atre’s career include the setting up of the India R&D operations of multinational companies and guiding them through growth, spin-offs and mergers policy contributions in the renewable energy/solar space, leadership roles in semiconductor industry bodies, advisor to venture funds, start-up companies and colleges.

Dr. Atre has also carried out fundamental research in theoretical physics and parallel computing software. He graduate from IIT-Bombay, obtained his Ph.D. from IISc-Bangalore in Theoretical Physics, and has been a research scientist at TIFR-Bombay, PRL-Ahmedabad, as well at Universities of Syracuse and Naples.

Dr. Atre has played significant roles in industry bodies as a founding Executive Council member of the Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA), Co-Chairman of SEMI PV India, member of American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) Energy committee, executive committee of AMCHAM Bangalore Chapter, and charter member of TiE Bangalore, member of FICCI Solar Energy Task Force, etc.

Dr. Atre has more than 60 research papers, technical reports, thought leadership articles, etc.
